Be Aware
If your self awareness is only focused on the parts of you that are wrong and need to be 'fixed', then you are actually a self-critic and a self-hater.
When people hear self awareness, they quickly start to think about the parts of them that are negative.
'n How they talk too loudly
'n How they react too quickly.
'n How they find it difficult to trust people,
'n or even how their dress sense makes them Plain Jane (This is for me in particular).
But Self Awareness is not only about being aware of the negative things that need fixing, but also recognizing the positive parts of you that deserve applause.
The way you organize your space, the way you prioritize your health, the way you are comfortable in yourself, the way you pave through challenges with your head high, or even the way you allow others shine without dimming their light.
Sometimes, the parts of you that seem negative, may be a reflection of the positive parts of you that go unrecognized.
This means that, because you do not applaud the fact that you let others shine without dimming their light, you think that it means you allow yourself shrink before them.
Or that because you are comfortable in what you wear, without succumbing to societal trends and fashion, that it means you are 'Plain Jane' who doesn't put efforts into her appearance.
It is true that there are parts of you that need to be worked on, but do not overlook the parts that are already working.
Do not diminish something that is whole in itself, simply because you want to fix a part that you think is broken.
Work on being a better version of you, while recognizing that you are already a pretty good version. Not everything needs fixing, some just need recognition and commendation.

This was a good read
ReplyDeleteLowkey I do this
Usually more self aware of the negative and forget the positive part a lot
I appreciate you reading this, and the honesty. It happens to most of us.
DeleteHowever, I hope now you make effort to recognize your positive parts as well.
